The gaze runs free among architectural symmetries and wide open spaces, dominated by two masterpieces: on the one hand, the&nbsp;<strong>Basilica of St. Francis of Paola<\/strong>, inspired by the Roman Pantheon, with its dramatic dome and semicircular colonnades; on the other hand, the&nbsp;<strong>Royal Palace<\/strong>, former residence of the Bourbons, with statues of the rulers marking the history of the Kingdom of Naples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The square has undergone centuries of transformations: from a bare clearing in front of the royal palace to a military square, then to the ceremonial center of the Bourbon monarchy, until it became one of the city's most iconic sites today. Concerts, civic celebrations, Christmas markets and outdoor exhibitions are held here. But the square is also an everyday theater: tourists, photographers, children playing, couples embracing with Vesuvius in the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A beloved curiosity concerns a \u201ctest of courage\u201d: according to tradition, whoever can cross the square blindfolded starting between the two equestrian statues without deviating will get lucky.
